Move beyond memorizing herbs one at a time and learn April Punsalan’s framework for understanding the language of plants—both their botany and their medicine.
Learn to recognize the patterns that connect plant families, herbal energetics, and medicinal uses with someone that has 30 years of lived experience so you can walk with the land with greater confidence and bring healing to yourself, your family, and your community through your deep understanding and relationship with plants.
April shares the framework that helped her write her recent book, teach thousands of students, and form Wild Herb Academy, and most importantly, the framework that helps her heal her body, her daughter, husband, family, and friends.
This isn't about memorizing more herbs, this is about embodying plant wisdom.
It's about changing the way you see the plant world. It's about really knowing plant medicine, not just memorizing their actions.
Imagine walking through a field, forest, or your own backyard and beginning to recognize the patterns around you. You notice the family a plant belongs to. You recognize botanical characteristics. You begin to understand its energetics and consider how those patterns may relate to its medicine. After this course, you will be able to identify new wild herbs not trending, create your own recipes, and be a trailblazer.
Instead of feeling like there will always be another herb you need to memorize, you have a framework for knowing how to learn from the plant in front of you.
The land becomes your classroom. The plants become your teachers. And you begin to truly learn their language.
What You'll Experience Inside Medical Botany
Learn the Language of Plants Through Botany
Develop the field botany skills that can transform the way you practice herbalism.
You'll learn to recognize plant families and botanical characteristics, understand taxonomy, and become more comfortable using floras and field guides.
Instead of identifying plants only one at a time, you'll begin recognizing the larger patterns connecting the flowering plant world.
Move Beyond Memorizing Herbs
There will always be another plant to learn.
Medical Botany gives you a framework for organizing what you already know—and understanding what you haven't met yet.
You'll explore the relationships between plant families, botanical characteristics, herbal energetics, medicinal properties, and traditional uses so that your knowledge becomes something you can continue building upon for a lifetime.
Deepen Your Understanding of Herbal Energetics
Move beyond simply asking:
“What is this herb good for?”
Begin asking deeper questions about the qualities and energetics of a plant, the person receiving it, and how herbal medicine can be approached with greater discernment.
You'll begin weaving together botany and herbal medicine rather than studying them as two separate worlds.
Build a Relationship with 50+ Flowering Plant Medicines
Throughout Medical Botany, you'll deepen your relationship with more than 50 flowering plants used for food, medicine, and connection.
You'll explore identification, medicinal uses, energetics, harvesting, preparation, and the ecological relationships of the plants themselves.
But these plants aren't simply another collection of monographs to memorize.
They become your teachers for understanding the larger language of plants.
Learn With April—Live Biweekly Classes
You won't be left alone to make sense of everything you're learning.
Throughout our 12 weeks together, you'll receive live mentorship with April through a combination of deeper Medical Botany teachings, plant identification, Q&A, field observations, and integration.
Bring the plants you're meeting, the questions arising in the field, and the places where you still feel unsure.
We'll practice seeing the patterns together until what you're learning begins to move beyond information and become something you truly know.
And if you can't attend a session live, recordings will be available inside your course portal.
Step Out of the Online Classroom and Onto the Land
Two In-Person Medical Botany Field Days — November 14th & 15th
This year, you'll also have the opportunity to join April for two in-person Medical Botany field days.
This is where everything we've been learning begins to come alive.
We'll step onto the land together and practice reading the landscape, recognizing plant families, identifying medicinal plants, exploring herbal energetics, and connecting the botany you've learned with the living plants in front of you.
Ask questions in real time. Practice your field botany skills. Meet the plants together.
And experience the shift from simply knowing about plants to beginning to truly know them.
Because ultimately, the land is where Medical Botany comes alive.
Attendance at the in-person field days is optional. Travel, lodging, meals, and other associated expenses are not included. Additional location and schedule details will be provided to enrolled students.
And for Those Who Want to Go Even Deeper...
Priority Access to Our 2027 Peru Plant Medicine Retreat
Medical Botany students will also receive first access to our July 19th–28th, 2027 Plant Medicine Retreat in Peru before enrollment is opened more widely.
This optional immersion will give us the opportunity to step into an entirely different landscape and continue learning through the plants, ecosystems, and plant traditions of Peru.
It is another opportunity to take what you're learning beyond the screen and experience what it means to learn directly from the land.
The Peru retreat is a separate experience and is not included with Medical Botany tuition. Retreat tuition, travel, accommodations, and associated expenses are additional. Full details will be shared as retreat plans are finalized.
One Last Season of Medical Botany Mastery
There is something especially meaningful about this year's cohort.
This will be the final time I offer Medical Botany in its current 12-week format.
Beginning in 2027, Medical Botany will evolve into a much deeper 8-month apprenticeship, with tuition beginning at $3,500.
I've realized over the years that this work deserves time.
Time to observe.
Time to practice.
Time to meet the plants again and again through the seasons.
And time for botanical knowledge to become embodied knowledge.
The next evolution of Medical Botany will create space for that deeper apprenticeship.
But before that new chapter begins, I'm opening the doors one final time to Medical Botany: Mastery of the Flowering Plant Medicines in its 12-week format.
If you've been waiting to study Medical Botany with me, this is your final opportunity to experience this version of the program.
